Sustainable New Year's Resolutions
Happy New Year to all of you, our lovely GF Beauties!
We at Gypsy Freedom hope you all had a lovely Holiday season and are off to a great start in 2021. This year one of our resolutions was to launch a journal that would keep each of us in this beautiful community informed and connected.
With the start of this year, many of you have shared the NEW YOU that you are aiming to release this year. Some of you are setting intentions to be more sustainable, intentional, healthy, etc. We admire what we are seeing from each of you and want to be an integral friend along your journey.
If you are still looking to set some resolutions, let us help you lead a more sustainable and healthy lifestyle this year!
1. Buy From Brands You Can Trust
It is so important to do thorough research on the ethics of a brand when selecting your clothes. At Gypsy Freedom, we know this can be a time consuming and lengthy process if you don’t know where to look. That is why we’re here! Every brand we choose to carry has been carefully curated by our owner Caeresa Richardson. She takes the time to evaluate their labor practices, production processes, and overall company values so that you don’t have to. It’s now easier than ever to choose brands that you can look good and feel good in.
2. Choose Reusable Face Masks
As we head in to 2021 and COVID-19 is still lingering, it’s important to make the switch to reusable and washable face masks to protect you and the environment! Too many times I’ve seen those paper masks on the ground while on a hike or walking through the heart of Downtown Syracuse! Instead of using disposable masks, opt for a stylish reusable one that you can match to your outfits while you keep the Earth clean. We have a selection of masks to help you make a fashion statement as well as an environmental statement. Spread love not COVID! <3
3. Incorporate More Plant Based Meals!
You don’t have to become a full time vegetarian or vegan to help reduce your carbon footprint, but by incorporating some plant based meals into your diet this year, you can boost your physical health and the planet’s health too! Try participating in Meatless Mondays, a global movement to encourage people to reduce their meat intake and better their environment. Skipping just one serving of beef every Monday saves the equivalent emissions to driving 348 miles in a car! Check back for future blog posts where we will share some of our favorite plant based meal options that you can try with your family this year.
4. Avoid Palm Oil
Palm oil can be found in many common bath products. It contributes to deforestation, climate change, human rights violations, and is also not so great for our health. To avoid contributing to this harmful industry, try replacing some of your bath products with the sustainable and local made options that we curated just for you!
5. Shop Local
Whenever you can, try to make an effort to shop the locally owned stores in your area. By doing this, you are actively investing in your community and making it a better place to live. Small Business Saturday doesn’t have to be once a year! Try finding a new local business to visit whenever you get the chance; chances are you’ll discover something incredible while supporting your neighbors!
