Welcome to March! It's Women’s History Month! We’ve seen so many women smash through the glass ceiling lately (hello Kamala), so I thought it would only be appropriate to recognize some boss babes in the sustainable fashion industry. I’ve curated a list of some of our favorite Gypsy Freedom brands that are owned by women! Because who run the (sustainable fashion) world? Girls!
Level 99 is a sustainable denim brand with an important message. Their gorgeous denim is produced using recycled water and biodegradable materials like Modal and Tencel. Level 99 also works to offset their carbon emissions by donating to renewable energy initiatives, gas capture projects, and more. In addition to their earth-friendly production practices, Level 99 is on a mission is to celebrate and empower women through fashion.
Symbology is a favorite here at Gypsy Freedom and so is its owner. You may remember Marrisa Heyl from our January Sip & Shop, where she joined us virtually to talk about some of the beautiful items of hers that we carry here at Gypsy Freedom. The unique prints you see on Symbology clothing are achieved with a block printing method that honors the tradition and heritage of female artisans in developing countries. In addition, Symbology acknowledges that we all come in different shapes and sizes and celebrates that with size inclusive options!
Founded when three best friends took a four month trip to India, Mata Traders is such a great example of what can happen with a shared passion and a little bit of teamwork! The bold patterns and bright colors of their pieces celebrate Indian culture while being everyday wearable. Mata Traders is working to end global poverty through fair trade practices. Each piece is made in India and Nepal by local artisans who receive a fair wage, which provides families in economically disadvantaged communities with a stable income.
An early adapter on the sustainable fashion scene, Helena Stuart founded Only Hearts in 1978. She revolutionized undergarments, creating the first "Inner Outerwear". Today, Helena and her daughter, Kaya offer a wide range of sustainable lingerie, sleepwear, bralettes, underwear, and loungewear. Their pieces have a cheeky vintage vibe that will have you feeling flirty and confident.
Neu Nomads is another story of female friendship turned into a booming business. Karen, based in New York, and Angela, from New Delhi, created Neu Nomads as a way for conscious consumers to obtain beautiful wardrobe staples at an attainable price. Their breathable pieces use plant based fabrics including linen, satin Tencel, and eco-jersey. They also use their platform to highlight female entrepreneurs and creatives on their monthly content series. Neu Nomads aims to form a "growing global collective of women", from their founders to their employees and customers.
You can find pieces from each of these amazing brands at Gypsy Freedom! I love that these brands are not only created by women, but created for women, with the goal of making them feel confident and empowered through sustainable fashion. Now thats what I call women supporting women(who are supporting the Earth)!
Thanks for reading ladies,
